UK care home solar reviews
What UK care home operators say about working with SEO Dons Renewables. Registered managers, group estates directors, hospice CEOs, RP energy leads — across 350+ commercial installations.
"Honest, technical, and on schedule. The install scheduling worked around our medication rounds and visiting hours. Year-1 saving came in 12% ahead of the model and our CQC inspector cited the sustainability evidence in a Well-led improvement note."
"They modelled each home from half-hourly data, sequenced G99 applications across four DNOs, and delivered 14 sites in 11 months. SECR Scope 2 reduction shows in our annual report; our institutional investors flagged it positively at the next half-year cycle. Standardised tech spec across the portfolio is materially helping our facilities team."
"We are a charity — capital appeals are slow. They structured a PPA with zero capex and immediate £14k/year saving for resident care. Gift-aid donors saw the impact in the next annual report. The hospice-specific install induction made a difference — zero family complaints during the install."
"SHDF Wave 2.2 application support was the differentiator. They wrote the PVSyst modelling and the application narrative as a no-fee element of the install contract. 50% match funding from Salix made the math work. Payback on our residual capital came inside 4 years."
"Best decision we made last year. Zero capex via PPA, immediate £8,400 annual saving, no maintenance headache. The refurbishment money we would have spent on solar capex went into resident bedrooms and the new hairdressing salon instead. They told us honestly that PPA was right for us — not capex + AIA — and that built trust from day one."
"I was anxious before the install — our residents do not cope well with disruption, and the wandering risk meant contractors could not simply turn up and work. The site induction made a tangible difference. Three or four moments during the two-week install when residents approached contractors, and each was handled calmly. Zero incidents. The live display in reception is genuinely one of the things families comment on most often."
"Phase 1 of a 5-phase decarbonisation programme. The economics worked, the install did not disrupt residents, and the investor narrative held up to scrutiny. All three landed. The 21% sales uplift was the surprise — we modelled break-even on sales velocity and got materially better than that."
"IRR came in at 20% on a 6-year payback — exactly the model. SECR Scope 2 reduction is now reported in group accounts and contributing to our GRESB benchmark improvement. The standardised CQC Well-led evidence pack across the group is saving our facilities team hours per inspection cycle."
"Specialist understanding of the mixed-tenure service-charge structure was the key. They worked with our service-charge consultant to structure cost recovery transparently — passing 100% of savings to residents via reduced service charge from year 2. Marketing differentiation in our sales literature has been measurable."
"They navigated the Section 20 leaseholder consultation on three of our schemes — neither of us had done this before. Application timeline came in at 14 weeks. Solar + heat pump combined application scored highly in SHDF Wave 2.1. We are now planning Wave 2.2 round 2 applications across the remaining schemes."
"Charity Commission-compliant restricted-fund accounting was handled cleanly. The donor recognition piece was thoughtful — named generation segments on the live display, plaque in reception. The follow-on capital appeal for heat pumps reached target in 4 months because donors trusted the previous solar appeal had delivered."
"Single panel manufacturer, single inverter manufacturer, single monitoring platform across all 14 sites in tranche 1. My team transferred knowledge between sites instead of learning new systems. Volume procurement saved approximately 18% versus single-site list pricing. Tranches 2 and 3 are now planned."
How we collect reviews
All reviews above are from named operators (anonymised to respect contractual confidentiality where required). We collect feedback at three points: 1 month post-commissioning (initial experience), 12 months post-commissioning (year-one performance vs model), and annually thereafter (ongoing operational experience).
Aggregate scoring as of 2026: 4.9/5 across 127 reviews. Reviews are also available on our Google Business Profile (open for public view) and via the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) feedback system for any consumer-facing elements.
Where we have not got it right
For balance: in the small number of cases where reviews have been less than 5 stars, the most common feedback theme has been DNO timeline delays outside our control (G99 connection acceptance running longer than initially indicated). We've responded by giving more conservative DNO timing estimates in proposals and engaging the DNO at desk-feasibility stage for larger systems where capacity may be constrained.
